Our Story

Gen12 began when I asked myself a simple yet profound question: What would happen to my kids if my wife and I weren’t here anymore? What would become of them if something happened to us?
I started at the only place I knew—I went to a lawyer and began creating a will and trust. But soon, I realized that my will and trust mostly dealt with financial matters, and didn’t address the deeper aspects of legacy. So, I began asking my lawyer some tough questions.
-
What if I’m not here when they get married?
-
What if they have kids?
-
What if they graduate from college?
-
Could I create a video with marriage advice?
-
Or offer guidance on what to do when you turn forty, have kids, or reflect on the things I wish I knew when I graduated college?
-
Could I store these videos somewhere, and have them sent automatically to my children when they reach certain milestones?
-
What about my grandkids—could I do the same for them?
I quickly realized there were limitations to the current legacy system. The idea of passing down wisdom, lessons, and personal stories was missing from the traditional legacy planning process. I started thinking, how do I ensure my kids and grandkids learn from the experiences and knowledge that shaped me? My great-grandparents were immigrants from Italy and Poland—how do I pass on their stories, the things they endured, and the values they instilled in our family?
At the moment, legacy systems focus primarily on transferring money and assets—which is important, but it’s only a small part of the legacy. What if there was a way to pass down not just money, but all the lessons, wisdom, and stories of our family history? A secure place to store my will, estate documents, and my personal advice for my children and grandchildren?
As I began my research, I came across Storyworth, which creates beautiful books of your stories. While I loved the idea, I knew I wanted more. I wanted a place to digitally store everything precious to me—not just a physical book. I didn’t want to stop at preserving memories and stories; I also wanted the ability to send important assets to my family members after I was gone. I needed a comprehensive solution that could do both—capture my legacy and ensure that my loved ones received what they needed, long after I’m no longer here.
That’s when Gen12 was born. A platform to preserve and pass on not just assets, but knowledge, stories, and wisdom that shape who we are—and who we hope our children and grandchildren will become.
